Where we work
Home accessibility modifications in Attadale
Attadale is a quiet suburb wedged between Leach Highway to the south and the Swan River foreshore to the north, with housing that ranges from modest 1950s and 1960s brick homes on the southern streets to more substantial properties on the slopes running down toward the river. The riverfront end of Attadale has some of the most significant grade change of any suburb in the area, which is a meaningful consideration when someone asks about level entry.
South of Leach Highway, the streets are flatter and the housing is more uniform - single-storey mid-century brick where the accessibility challenges are the familiar ones: step-down shower recesses, narrow hallways, and doorways that predate modern accessibility thinking. These are jobs we handle daily from our Melville base, which is less than ten minutes away.
Attadale is close enough to Fiona Stanley Hospital's catchment that we occasionally receive calls from families whose parent or relative has been discharged and needs the home made ready. We are direct about what can be completed in a given timeframe.
What we find in Attadale homes
Every suburb has its own housing character and its own access challenges. Here is what we most often see when we visit homes in Attadale.
The northern streets of Attadale slope toward the Swan River, sometimes steeply. A level path from the street or the garage to the front door on these blocks can require earthworks, retaining and drainage rather than a simple ramp - we assess the grade at the start of every site visit.
Mid-century brick homes in the southern part of Attadale close to Leach Highway have flat sites that make external modifications uncomplicated. Threshold ramps and path levelling here are generally quick jobs.
The step-down shower recess is nearly universal in original Attadale bathrooms. Removing the hob, grading the new floor, and waterproofing flush to the surrounding bathroom level is one of our most routine jobs in this suburb.
Some Attadale homes have been substantially extended or rebuilt, introducing two-storey sections where a ground-floor accessible alternative to the main upstairs bathroom is worth assessing before committing to the more complex upper-level work.
Attadale has a strong population of long-term residents - it is the kind of suburb where people stay. Modifications here are often about a ten or twenty-year plan, not just the immediate need.

Questions
Questions about work in Attadale
Our Attadale home is on a slope facing the Swan River. Can you create a level entry from the street?
The slope is the first thing we assess on any riverfront Attadale visit. Where the gradient allows a compliant ramp pitch we design and build it. Where it is steeper, a handrail-assisted path or a reconfigured approach is often the safer answer. We measure it during the site visit and tell you the realistic options.
My father has just been discharged from Fiona Stanley. How quickly can you visit?
Call us on 1300 702 287 as soon as the discharge date is confirmed. Simple modifications - grab rails, a raised toilet suite, a threshold ramp - can sometimes be completed in under a week. A full shower conversion takes longer. We will tell you honestly what is achievable in the time you have.
Is the $149 home safety audit available in Attadale?
Yes, at the same price as everywhere we work. Attadale is adjacent to Melville and we visit regularly. The audit covers every space the household uses and produces written notes and a prioritised recommendation.
We want to modify the bathroom but are not sure whether to work on the existing one or create something new on the ground floor. How do we decide?
That is exactly the question we work through at the site visit. We look at both options: what the existing bathroom allows, and whether the ground floor has plumbing nearby that makes a new wet area feasible. Most of the time one option is clearly more cost-effective and we will say so plainly.
