AccessAble Home Modifications

About us

10+ years of accessibility work, nothing else

AccessAble Home Modifications designs and builds home modifications for Perth people who want to keep living safely and independently in the home they already know.

The work, and why we only do this

Most renovation companies take whatever work comes through the door. A bathroom here, a deck there, a kitchen for the next client. AccessAble Home Modifications does not work that way. For 10+ years, every single job we have taken has been an accessibility modification. That is the whole business.

The reason is straightforward. Accessibility work is incredibly important. Most older Australians and people with a disability or mobility issue want to stay in their own home on their own terms for as long as possible, if not forever. Helping to make that happen is incredibly rewarding. It is not about renovating to follow the latest trend or keep up with the Jones’ over the road. It is taking a well-loved home, that doesn’t work for current and long term living requirements, and making it easier, safer and more comfortable to use, for as long as you need and want it.

It also has its own unique set of problems - waterproofing a level-entry shower floor so it does not leak back into the substrate, fixing a grab rail into a 1960s brick wall at the load it actually needs to carry, building a ramp at a slope that is genuinely useable rather than technically compliant. Those things require practice. A general renovator does them occasionally. We do them every day.

How we are different

Accessibility comes first

Everything we do, bathrooms, kitchens, ramps and flooring, is designed and built from a safety, usability and accessibility framework first. Once we have worked out the most accessible design possible within the constraints of your home, we then consider the fixtures, fittings, materials, and the budget you have. Accessibility doesn’t have to look like a hospital, and if needed we can set up bathrooms to be easily and inexpensively converted back to a “normal” bathroom should you want or need to sell the home down the track.

We have the quality trades to make your bathroom or kitchen look amazing, but with the accessibility needs factored in first. If you just need accessibility and don’t have a high end budget, we will do our best to find a design that will fit your budget. However, this doesn’t mean we can work cheap or cut corners. If cost is an issue there are various government funding programmes that may be able to help you.

What that means in practice

  • One fixed price from the site visit
  • Designed around your accessibility needs first
  • Work starts in weeks, not months. Urgent work can generally be accommodated for people stuck in hospital or respite
  • Questions during the build go to the same people who designed it
  • Finishes are matched to your budget

The approach

What we actually focus on

A decade of doing only this work means we have learned what matters most - and what is usually being done wrong.

The home has to stay looking like a home

The biggest complaint we hear about accessibility modifications is that they look institutional. With thoughtful design that doesn’t have to be the case. We can also design the bathroom so it can be easily normalised in the future if plans change and the home needs to be sold.

Fixed prices, written down

Every job comes with a written scope and a fixed price before we begin. Our quotes include all fixtures, fittings and labour. Nothing else to spend.

We keep the house liveable

Most of our work happens in occupied homes. We plan the sequence so you keep a usable toilet and a way to wash throughout the job.

We work to real dates

A lot of our clients are coordinating a modification around a hospital discharge date, a carer’s availability, or a family visit. We commit to start dates and finish dates and we take them seriously.

What we do not do

We are an accessibility modification company. That is a specific skillset, and being specific about it is part of why the work is done well.

  • We do not do general bathroom renovations, kitchen renovations, or whole-house rebuilds.
  • We do not do structural engineering or architectural design. Where a job needs that, we refer you to the right professional.
  • We do not do NDIS work. Our jobs are paid privately, or in some cases we can do them through a Home Care Package.
  • We are not a retailer of rails, seats and the like, but we do have access to them for our bathroom jobs.

If you are not sure whether what you need is in our scope, ask us for a quote and we will tell you. We would rather say so up front than have you commission work that is not the right fit.
